How Soon Does Restylane Start Working?

The effects of aging are a shared human experience, and our skin typically bears the brunt of these effects as it develops lines and wrinkles, and loses volume. Here at Prizant Dermatology in Pittsburgh, PA, we wanted to offer patients inexpensive nonsurgical options to help them combat these aging signs, and Restylane is by far one of our most popular treatment options.

How Quickly Will My Restylane Treatment Start Working?

This Restylane treatment separates itself from the overabundance of anti-aging, wrinkle-combatting, non-surgical treatment options in today’s cosmetic market primarily because of its fast initial results. This treatment is widely considered one of the fastest (if not the fastest) injectable wrinkle-eradicating treatments available today.

Many of our patients report seeing noticeable differences in the 24 hours following their appointment. For the vast majority, the full range of effects can be observed within just two weeks of your appointment session.

Your Treatment Session

Pre-Session Preparation

48 Hours Before

We will give you specific instructions during your initial consultation with us, but one of the most important things you can do is avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for at least two days before your appointment session. These common medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen have blood-thinning properties that can compromise your treatment. Make certain that you also avoid alcohol for at least two days, and keep yourself well-hydrated during this time.

24 Hours Before

Take it easy at the gym and avoid strenuous activities if you can. Refrain from certain topical ointments and creams, as these can contain skin irritants such as retinoids and/or alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Make sure you avoid excessive sun exposure as the sun can also be a skin irritant.

What To Expect During the Session

A typical Restylane treatment session with us will rarely take over an hour from start to finish. We’ll ensure you’re relaxed and have all of your questions answered before beginning. We’ll start by thoroughly cleaning the target areas. If you’re sensitive to needles we can apply a topical numbing cream onto your skin. We inject infinitesimal amounts of the product into your skin in several different areas near the target zones to ensure the filler is being applied evenly.

Post-Session Advice

For the remainder of the day following your session, keep yourself well-hydrated and avoid touching or rubbing your face. Most people rarely feel more than slight skin sensitivity and swelling after undergoing treatment, but it’s still important to avoid pore-clogging products like makeup.

For the next few days, you can apply cold compresses to reduce any swelling. Be sure to keep yourself propped upright with pillows while you sleep to further combat swelling. You can gently cleanse your skin as long as you don’t further irritate it with harsh scrubbing or abrasive cleansers, and continued sun protection is a must. Keep your workouts light at the gym for a few more days, and keep avoiding NSAIDs.

Initial Results and Longevity

Hour by hour after your appointment, you’ll be able to see steady improvements in your target areas. The first 24 hours will produce noticeable results, but the full extent will be apparent in the one or two weeks following the date of your appointment. Depending on many individual factors, you can enjoy your results for over a year before a repeat session becomes necessary.

If you’re interested in learning how to ensure your treatment results last as long as they can, make ample hydration a number-one priority. It will also behoove you to make efforts to limit the stressors in your life, as stress is one of the most prominent reasons for the appearance of premature aging. Keep a conscientious diet, get exercise regularly, and be diligent with sunblock.

Restylane Frequently Asked Questions

How Does the Treatment Work?

This treatment falls under the category of “dermal fillers,” which are injectable treatments that are applied beneath the dermis (skin) to either fill in the gaps left by skin laxity or encourage increased skin elasticity. Although dermal fillers have different ways of doing things they all have the same end goal: to eradicate your wrinkles and make you appear younger.

People love this particular dermal filler so much because it possesses a formula that primarily contains hyaluronic acid and also aims to stimulate collagen production. In this way, the treatment takes on a “best of both worlds” approach to anti-aging.

What’s So Important About Hyaluronic Acid?

This naturally-occurring substance can be found in our eyes, joints, and skin. We need plenty of it because it helps us with smooth joint movement, helps us retain moisture, and keeps our skin elastic and wrinkle-free. Part of the natural aging process means a steady decline in our ability to produce hyaluronic acid, and this is why we see more sagging skin and wrinkles the older we get.

Where Can I Have This Injection Done?

This treatment has several different formulas made to combat wrinkles and fine lines in virtually any area. Of the different formulas you can choose from, this treatment can help you combat nasolabial folds, sagging or hollow cheeks, perioral wrinkles, midface contour deficiencies, and infraorbital hollowing. You can also receive this treatment for your lips, dorsal hand, and chin.

Ideal Candidates

Thanks to the versatile and minimally invasive nature of this treatment, the vast majority of people qualify for this dermal filler. Acceptable candidates can also include people who did not qualify for more invasive or surgical anti-aging procedures. If you have concerns about moderate to severe wrinkles, lines, or volume loss anywhere on your face, you’re the perfect candidate.

Ideal candidates will also have good overall health and realistic treatment expectations. Those who don’t smoke will have much better results than those who do, and this treatment was made for individuals interested in natural-looking results.

Non-Ideal Candidates

Those with severe medical conditions such as autoimmune disorders may experience complications during a dermal filler treatment. Those who have allergies to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid and those who are unable to cease habits like long-term smoking and alcohol consumption should avoid this particular treatment.

Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, had a recent facial surgery, or have active skin infections should refrain from undergoing this treatment until a later date.

Revolutionary Restylane

Gone are the days when anti-aging solutions come at the cost of downtime as well as dollars. If you’re ready to take advantage of a treatment that celebrates your unique individualism and allows you the look you desire without compromise, call us now here at Prizant Dermatology in Pittsburgh, PA.
