How Long Do Fillers Last?

If you want to refresh your look but you don’t want to undergo plastic surgery, then dermal fillers Pittsburgh may be a good option for you. These treatments are simple injectables that can boost collagen production, smooth out the appearance of wrinkles, and even contour your appearance. At Prizant Dermatology in Pittsburgh, PA we have several dermal injectables for you to choose from.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Dermal injectables can last for months or years based on the type of formula the treatment uses and your individual biology. In general, you can trust the projected results these treatments will have. For example, Juvederm treatments can last up to 12 to 18 months, while Sculptra results can last up to two years. Our experts will be able to give you a better idea of how long your results can last based on your age and the amount of volume correction you require.

What Filler Options Do We Have?

At Prizant Dermatology, we have a collection of four injectables that can be used to restore the appearance of your face by replacing volume, filling in fine lines and wrinkles, and augmenting your appearance to achieve your desired goals. Some of our dermal injectables include:

Juvederm

Juvederm is a broad collection of dermal injectables that each serve a unique purpose for restoration. For example, Volbella is used to add volume to the lips and correct asymmetry, while Ultra and Voluma are both ideally used to smooth the appearance of wrinkles in the mid-face around the nose, mouth, and cheeks.

Juvederm fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar molecule known to help the skin retain moisture and a plump, plush texture. Hyaluronic acid is also scientifically proven to increase natural collagen production, which is one of the main reasons why Juvederm injectables are so popular.

Restylane

Restylane is another hyaluronic acid dermal injectable that can be used to restore volume in the face, as well as the back of the hands. Like any other hyaluronic acid injectable, this treatment works by helping your skin bind itself to natural water to increase the volume of skin and smooth away the appearance of visible signs of aging.

Sculptra

We also offer Sculptra, a unique dermal injectable formulated with poly-L-lactic acid to naturally stimulate collagen production. Sculptra is an ideal treatment for those who have complex age-related volume loss in the face, including those who have moderate to severe fine lines and wrinkles. This revolutionary formula is well-known for its ability to create gradual, natural-looking volume with long-lasting results.

Which Treatment Is Right for You?

Deciding between dermal fillers in Pittsburgh can be difficult, but ultimately, the injectable that is right for you will depend on your skin condition, your goals, and your preferred maintenance. For example, if you have more than one area of concern, such as lip concerns and mid-face wrinkles, then you may need to use a combination of injectables that will need to be compatible with each other to get the results you want.

We will help you figure out which injectable is ideal for your aesthetic needs and goals during your consultation. Your consultation will also allow us to gather relevant medical and skincare information that will help us identify the treatment that will work the best for your unique skin concerns.

Can You Combine Treatments?

In general, yes, you can combine different treatments to achieve your desired results. For some patients, because of unique skin needs, combining different treatments outside of dermal injectables is necessary to achieve desired results. For example, dermal injectables are frequently combined with neurotoxins or even PRP to rejuvenate the appearance.

What Can You Expect During Your Treatment?

Dermal injectables are fairly simple treatments that are performed by administering a small about of filler product into the sub-dermal layers of skin where volume loss has occurred. Your skin will slowly absorb the product over time while also replenishing the volume in your skin to reduce visible signs of aging. Your treatments will take about 30 minutes to complete.

How Should You Prepare?

Injectable treatments are simple enough that you will not have to prepare for them the same way you would prepare for plastic surgery – which means you won’t need to arrange for time off work, transportation, or even fast before your appointment. However, you will need to do some things before your appointment to ensure that your treatment is a successful one.

As a general rule, we encourage patients to temporarily discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least three to five days before their appointment. You should also avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as this can also cause blood-thinning. We may give you additional pre-treatment instructions to follow after your consultation.

What Should You Do After Your Treatment?

Unlike plastic surgery, there isn’t much you will need to do after your dermal injectable appointment – in fact, most patients immediately return to normal daily activities, including work, errands, and even dinner plans. However, you will need to follow a few guidelines after your treatment so your results can develop as desired.

For example, you should avoid direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours after your treatment and you should wear SPF when you plan to be outside. You should also avoid washing your face with hot water or exposing your skin to heat, sweating, or steam. Please do not touch or rub your skin, as this can disturb the filler and prevent it from “settling” into your skin correctly.

How Soon Will You See Your Results?

The results of your dermal injectable will develop at different rates depending on which injectable is used for your treatment. In general, most fillers can produce instantaneous results since the formulas all contain water-based ingredients that will immediately plump the skin and fill in areas of the skin that have lost volume.

It’s common for your immediate results to “deflate” after a few days while the dermal injectable is being processed by the body, but your results will generally show up within one to two weeks of your appointment. Some fillers, like Sculptra, may take a few additional days to display visible results.

Are Dermal Injectables Safe?

Yes, injectable treatments are very safe. Aside from the fact that these treatments are FDA-approved and enjoy good reputations from the thousands of patients who have benefited from them, the formulas themselves are generally compatible with the human body. Hyaluronic acid injectables, for example, are considered hypoallergenic since HA is found naturally in the human body and is well-tolerated by the immune system.

Will Your Results Look Natural?

Yes! While it’s a common concern many have about dermal injectables, the fact of the matter is that these treatments are designed to produce results that look natural. After your treatment, your appearance will gradually improve until the visible signs of aging and volume loss virtually disappear.

Most of the time, people can’t even tell that you’ve had a treatment to refresh your appearance. Additionally, our aesthetic experts approach facial rejuvenation from a holistic perspective that ensures your results will appear natural as they develop and settle.

Are You a Good Candidate?

The vast majority of people who want to refresh and rejuvenate their appearance are good candidates for dermal injectables, particularly if they are not interested in plastic surgery. In general, candidates should not have a history of allergic reactions and should not be currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Your skin should also be healthy on the day of your appointment, so please reschedule if you have active cold sores, fever blisters, rosacea, or eczema.

You are likely a good candidate for injectable treatments if you have one or more age-related concerns that you would like to correct. Some of the most common areas of concern include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles on mid-face
  • Smile lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Lipstick lines
  • Weak vermillion border
  • Asymmetry in the lips
  • Narrow jawline
  • Hollow cheekbones
  • Crow’s feet
  • Hollow under-eye area
  • Acne scarring
